Why does Asian American history matter for Christians? This lecture on October 27th seeks to answer this question by reviewing the history of the Chinese Exclusion Era (1882-1943), and the Chinese American Christians that lived during that time.
Led by Master of Theological Studies student, Samuel Chao, this Race Literacy Seminar will examine the religious lives of four Chinese Americans and highlight their social justice activism as a form of lived religion. Reflecting on these Chinese American Christian histories and religious frameworks can help inform our faithful witness during our present moment of intense immigration debates and political strife, which are not unlike the Chinese Exclusion Era.
