Join Us for Racism & The Church: Processing Messiness Through Story Workshop!

Little Lights’ Race Literacy Connections is pleased to announce a workshop led by Rev. Dr. Bobby Griffith.

History is messy. Our stories are messy and the Bible is messy. Join us as we learn to detangle the messiness through processing our story.

This participatory workshop will offer participants rich opportunities for small and large group discussion as well as instruction on the use of story and history in processing complicated events through the lenses of race and gender. Participants will be able to compare their own stories to stories in the Bible and identify messiness in both. Then, they will apply these examples to engage lament and hope and identify paths for change. Finally, they will employ theological tools to make sense of confusing things.

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Examine the function of power in history, especially in the American Church.
  • Distinguish between cultural ideas that are part of the church/modern evangelicalism and cultural norms that are not necessarily biblical.
  • Determine ways these cultural norms are present in our lives and look at ways to address them.

Saturday, March 25, 2023 (10:30 AM -12:30 PM)
