There will never be another Linda Rice. A truly unique person, Linda started working part-time at Little Lights as our Choir Director in 2002. Fairly soon after that, she came on full time eventually becoming one of our key leaders as an Associate Director.
In many ways, she became the face of Little Lights especially to the students and families at Potomac Gardens. She spent countless hours encouraging, counseling, and challenging students and adults as well as fellow staff so that each person knew that they were loved and valued.
She had an indomitable spirit of hospitality, making everyone feel welcome and special, and even after a full work schedule she often cooked meals and baked goods for the community. Her husband, Thomas Rice, also worked part-time at Little Lights and cared for the community together as a couple.
In 2019, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and passed away on Good Friday of 2020 during the pandemic.
She is dearly missed by her friends, co-workers, and the community she served. Little Lights is honored to name our brand new scholarship program the Linda Rice Scholarship. So far in 2021, Little Lights has provided $7,000 in college scholarships to Little Lights alumni and participants in our College and Career Program.
